James Madison garners 2 votes for AP Top 25 in FBS and they only get a #9 ranking from you? Why?
Keenan,
James Madison needs to prove they can have continued success following its big win against Virginia Tech to warrant a higher ranking from me. The Dukes have a pair of tough tests at home after a bye week (Liberty and Delaware) so I'll get a better look at them then. JMU is a great team, but I'm not sold on them just yet.
Can you explain to me why McNeese St is so high? Was their 3 point win over Lamar that impressive?
Anonymous,
Looking back on it, I should have ranked them a bit lower but didn't see many teams in the lower half that deserved a big jump. Maybe Northern Iowa, but it was a pick-your-poison type of thing for me. My next ballot will be a true representation of where teams fall because most are back to playing on the same level.
I'm curious what Montana has done to impress you. Was it the victory over a Division 2 team, or the loss to Cal Poly? If Madison hasn't proven themselves to you after a convincing win over a top ranked FBS team, and Liberty doesn't crack the top 15 after dominating an FCS team and beating an FBS team on the road, I'm really curious to see the rational behind some of these picks.
Warren Kelly,
Montana has proven year in and year out to be a dominant force in the FCS and should be recognized as such — at least to me — in the first few weeks of the season until it proves to not be said force.
The same goes for many other high-profile programs in the FCS, such as Villanova and Appalachian State.
Yes, with the Griz's loss to Cal Poly, they should be dropped but how far? If Alabama were to lose tomorrow to Florida or another program of that ilk, would they get dropped to 10th?
I have probably undervalued both James Madison and Liberty and it will be rectified in the next ballot.
Thanks for reading and I appreciate the constructive criticism.
