- Then-junior running back Stan Zwinggi opened up the scoring with a 92-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Zwinggi's record still stands to this day.
- Zwinggi finished the game with 159 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries.
- Not to be outdone, then-freshman running back Karrington Bush toted the ball 11 times for 136 yards a touchdown.
- Texas State opened up a 10-point lead late in the third quarter thanks to Zwinggi's fourth touchdown run of the night, a 10-yard scamper.
- It was Brad Wright's first win of his collegiate coaching career.
