According to the Midland Telegram-Reporter, Greenwood Mr. Versatile, Blake McColloch verbally committed to play at Texas State. Last season, he was named District 3-3A's Most Valuable Player, while playing fullback, quarterback, linebacker and punter.

Davalos likens his teams' struggles to Bobcat QB
According to Texas State men's basketball head coach Doug Davalos, his team's recent struggles are much akin to that of Bobcat quarterback Bradley George in the fall.
In case anyone forgets George's saga, it was an interesting case. George entered the season as the No. 1 quarterback and distanced himself from fellow QB Clint Toon during the spring and fall. Once the season began, George struggled.
He had a decent game against Angelo State before not playing well at Southern Methodist. George coughed up the ball on consecutive possessions and only threw two passes against the Mustangs. He was benched in favor of Clint Toon for several games, in order to recollect his thoughts.
"The thing is, that when Bradley George stepped back on the field, he was one of, if not the best quarterbacks in the league," Davalos said. "Coach Wright just needed to sit him down and have him find himself. He was the same quarterback all along, but he just needed to remember that.
"That's what our guys need to do right now. They need to find themselves as offensive players again. The thing isn't that we're not getting open looks, because then I need to go back to the drawing board. They're getting open looks, but they're just not falling. I'm not going to shake up the lineups too much, because I've already probably used the most lineups in the nation up to this point. Our guys know what they need to do and once they all get it going again, it's going to be something to watch."
Oh, and case anyone forgot, George led the Bobcats to the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 2005.

Emmanuel Bidias A' Moute and other notes...
- Texas State learned it would be without forward Emmanuel Bidias A' Moute for the rest of the season on Wednesday. Bidias A' Moute was ruled academically ineligible by the NCAA.
- Bidias A' Moute's absence is going to hurt the Bobcats a lot. Now, Texas State is stuck with Ty Gough and Jonathan Sloan as its two big post players, both of whom lack consistency. Bobcat head coach Doug Davalos slid Dylan Moseley over into that position to put a body there, but he looked lost.
- Texas State struggled to get much going against Sam Houston State, even though it kept the game close. The Bobcats had a chance to make it a game at the end, but Brent Benson missed a huge free throw. Benson was fouled on a 3-pointer, giving him three shots. He missed the second, if he made all three, it would have made it an one-possession game.
- Texas State has now lost three consectuvie Southland Conference games.

- Texas State takes a five-game win streak into its game tonight against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- The Bobcats have not let an opponent score more than 80 points in the last five contests.
- Islander guard LeMarr Drake has been ruled ineligible by the school and will not play tonight.
- Brandon Bush has scored in double figures in the last eight games.
- Texas State and TAMUCC are tied 3-3 in their series record.
- The Bobcats have lost their six games by a 19 points, combined.

Tidbits from an interview with Suzanne Fox...
Spoke with Texas State women's basketball head coach Suzanne Fox on Friday morning about the upcoming Southland Conference schedule. The Bobcats open SLC play with a 4 p.m. game against Texas-Arlington on Saturday.
Texas State is 6-6 overall and 0-5 away from Strahan Coliseum.
On her feelings about the team this year compared to last year: "You can win basketball games a lot of different ways and I think this team is no different. Last year, we shot more than 600 3-pointers. This year, we're going to have a lot of different ways to score. Our perimeter kids score, but it's going to be a different type. This will be very comparable to two years ago. We may not score as much as last year, but we're very focused on the defensive end."
On what UTA brings to the table: "They are a very balanced team. Candice Champion is playing just as good, if not better, than many other people in the league right now. UTA is a very tough place to win on the road. I have to look back at our schedule, but I don't think we've won a game on the road there in five years."
On if she feels the team is prepared about the same as last season: "You prepare the kids to get ready for 16 games in two months. It's a long haul. The teams that get ready the best and most are usually the teams that have success."

Cameron Luke named to 2008 Fab 50
The College Sporting News recently announced its 2008 Fab Fifty Division I FCS All-American team and Texas State received two nominations. Cameron Luke was named first team offense, while Blake Burton received honorable mention as a running back.
