Here's the breakdown I see: 4-5 seniors on OL (signed 6 OL), DL needed improvement (signed 2-4 DLs), TEs are all young (signed 2 JC TEs), 4 Srs at WR (signed 3 WRs), 4 Srs at LB (signed 2 possible LBs) and added 2-3 DBs including a kicker/punter. I can't forget adding 2 RBs that are always a necessary position to recruit every year.

The lone area of concern I see is DE. From just the size of players on the roster and new recruits that are both DTs, this is a position that needs improvement or they will have to play 3 DTs in a 4-2-5 defense.

Expect to see some position changes from the current roster: An example is with 3-4 TE sophomores on roster, 1-2 could move to say DE or another position with 2 JC TEs coming in or WRs/DBs could switch to the other side of the ball.

I'm excited for Texas State fooball! Really thinking of getting season tickets!

Tyler, just read your article. I agree and it was a very good article. Good quotes from anonymous and Coach Fran.

Saturday morning I was watching a replay of fox southwest recruiting (Big 12) and the recruiting analyst noted that the 2012 prospects would be receiving offers soon so just as quickly as the 2011 signings are done teams begin to offer the juniors that will be seniors this coming year. A&M and UT already have commits after having "junior days" on campus already. So in all likelihood, Coach Fran and staff will be behind until the 2013 class because other universities including UTSA have been watching high school sophomore/juniors that Tstate just now will begin to see/recruit. Still excited to see the type of recruitment they can have with a full year.

Also, if there is a way you can cover junior days (its a football camp for juniors high school players) for Texas state (will Texas State have them?) and let us know who comes to them (recruits).
Since Texas State doesn't have a rivals/scout.com website or other messageboards for this... there is not much coverage in these areas.

Thanks for the work you do. I just hope you and others can keep up the positive feeling Coach Fran and staff have given Texas State football fans.

Having seen our "size limitations" on defense these past several years maybe using some multi-fronts like 3-3-5 with the 4-2-5. Coaches are going to have to use our current roster to attack the offense because of those size limitations.
Our last true 4-2-5 [before Brad Wright era] was hurt on the deep easy pass. Plus the success by the Bailiff’s staff had a lot to do with a player named FRED EVANS, who was here, being recruited by the previous staff.
This goes to the real recruiting problem for Texas State Football program and its future…the lack of size you covered so well.

Sorry, I don't have twitter and so I couldn't find another way to try and get a hold of you. Any update on how Brett Donaldson from St. Joseph High School in Missouri went? Was he offered?

Any other recruits/walk-ons expected to be noted?

Anonymous,

I have put in a few calls to find out how Donaldson's visit went yesterday. Texas State, if it got Donaldson, would only have one scholarship to use since the max is 25.

Tyler,

Articles from the University star (few days/weeks back) indicated Texas State will run pro-style offense (makes more sense from Coach Fran's days at TCU/A&M) and 3-3-5 defense (not sure about this one but maybe). Not sure if you are correct or the University Star about this.

Could you find out? thanks!

Texas State will run a spread offense with some pro-style looks, but primarily spread. Defensively, the Bobcats will come out in a 4-2-5.

Colby Targun has committed to Texas State football! Link: http://bobcatreport.com/news/?p=374

Gave up DI baseball to play football at Txstate FCS then FBS in 2012. Impressive. I like this kid already!
