College Football: Is Fran the man?

ESPN's Joe Schad reported earlier that Dennis Franchione will be the next head coach at Texas State. I am trying to confirm.

No calls have been returned but there is a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

Great, that wasn't the hire that the program needed. Hopefully I am wrong but I just don't see him doing anything with the students or community. Are we going to have to buy into a website to get updates from the program???

Larry Ties should be fired for this one. We are now the laugh of the day in the college football world.

You have got to be kidding me. After all that, we get Fran?! It is an understatement how disappointing this would be. We need a shot of excitement to bring in the recruits. Is this head coaching position really that undesirable? This smells of bargain shopping.

I met Coach Fran a couple of years ago, smug as could be. He WILL NOT energize this program or community. On the day UT goes younger and great energy, Texas State goes for a re-tread.

I just don't understand. Is Ties that out of touch? Ticket and merchandise sales mean nothing? How do we expect to take the next step with recruiting and competing with the big boys? Investment in the program is what's needed to build this thing up. What a disappointment.

Tyler -

Will you come on to our message board and answer some questions?

This AD needs to go. If you are wanting to go D1, man up and go. Get real money and become atleast competive. I pray I am wrong but I have a feeling that TXSTATE is going to be the laughing stock of CFB.

@Jack — Do you want me to answer them via e-mail or through the forum?

Teis thinks he couldn't raise money with business before, wait till Fran looks down his nose at everyone.

I'm calling for an internal investigation to see if hiring the search firm was a cover up to smooth over Larry's hire!

WOW, this is a great hire. Maybe Roseanne will be the #1 show again and Milli Vanilli can win another Grammy. Seriously, how can this be a step forward????

How much coin was dropped on this 'search panel' if the Ol' Boy Network was already in full swing. Look at the post on here ALL negative.

First, Teis hires the completely unqualified Davalos as basketball coach because he's friends with his dad.

Now he hires a washed up coach that no one wants because he's his best friend.

Why would we want a job hoppin’ coach instead of long term, energetic coach? This hire (if its true) is like Rodriguez and Mich. Everyone wanted Les Miles and they got Rich instead.

FIRE TEIS. FIRE HIS LAME ASS. Seriously? Dennis Francionne? That's the best we could do? This university is PATHETIC. We had a chance to make a really exciting hire with Dan Hawkins and let that slip through our fingers to hire this smug goon with NCAA issues? Pathetic.

No more donations from my pocket until Teis leaves San Marcos. ZERO. I hope Trauth and Co. are happy now that we will be the absolute laughing stock of FBS not to mention how classless this thing all went down...other FBS programs have to think we're an absolute joke.

Think small...you get small.

haven't heard anything on leach during any of this... except maryland rumors. did we even attempt to contact him?

Fran may not be such a bad hire considering we are a no name school... especially if he can convince his national championship winning son to join the program too.

I think this is GREAT HIRE for Texas State. Fran is the big name that we needed to match utsa coach larry coker. Fran can recruit he had some of the top recruiting classes in the nation at A&M. He has also turned around several programs New Mexico, TCU, and turned around a Alabama program that was on probation. We need the big name to recruit and Fran can do that. Billy jack Wright would not have been able to do this like Fran will. Also Fran is bringing his son who is said to be a hot and up and coming coach. He has won a couple of JC National Championships, won a JC coach of the year award, and coached the recent Heisman Trophey winner Cam Newton in the recent past. Hopefully in a perfect world Fran gets the recruits, turns us around, retires and his son takes over.

Fran's son had an impressive record at Blinn but there is some major questions about why he was FIRED after all of his success. Also the name Coach Fran's name does not hold water with today's recruits. I wonder if the newspaper could get the search committee results thru open records act and see what they recommended.

Good Hire for us. Kids know who Coach Fran is probably more so than larry coker over at utsa. So we needed this big name coach. Also his son will be a good addition to TX State. Heard he resigned from Blinn the other day to take a position as Definsive Cordinaor at TX State. We could not have afforded Leach which would have been awesome and Dan Hawkins is said to not have been that interested after learning what we could offer him. So this was the best possibility for us and think to compete with larry coker and utsa we needed to hire Coach Fran

I believe Coach Fran still has a lot of pull with kids in the state of Texas. As far as his son goes this was the situation with him at Blinn which is no big deal had something to do with selling old seats from the old cowboys stadium to donors.
"Coach Franchione recently inquired about selling the seats to benefit the football program, which had won two Junior College National Championships during his four years as the Bucs' head coach.

The un-named donor is said to have had no problem with the idea, and Athletic Director David Rehr apparently signed off on it as well.

GOOD HIRE GO BOBCATS!!

Brad Franchione did not get fired from Blinn. He just resigned the other day... and some have speculated that he did it so he could join his Dad here at Texas State.

It's a good hire. Big names get big recruits. This hire puts us on the map. A map we were never on before.
