How about some finalists?
Spoke to a few sources and Texas State narrowed down its list of potential replacements for former head coach Brad Wright. The list includes former Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster, Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Bobby Jack Wright, former Texas A&M head coach Dennis Franchione and San Diego State defensive coordinator Rocky Long.
It looks as if Parker Executive Search gave Texas State one potential candidate other than the ones the Bobcats already had (Long).
All of the other names have been thrown around and shouldn't come as a surprise. More on this as it develops.

Which one would be the best for the Bobcats?
They need someone with a lot of experience because Trauth & Teis don't have near enough. The only thing standing in the way of Texas State being successful is the powers that be. Everyone wants to leave their mark and dictate when they should be listening and learning. We need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel and look at other successful programs of similar size and shape and emulate. Coaches salaries, academic requirements, fan involvement, tailgating, number of cheerleaders. The list goes on and on, half the time we look like a joke and we don't want to succeed.
Although I'm not too excited about having to settle for leftovers, I would like the Tim Brewster hire. His recruiting ties in Texas could be big for the Bobcats.
I agree with Anonymous that we need experience. The University is in its own way to creating a successful and revenue driving program. From the candidates we are left with, I like Bobby Jack Wright. He is an alum of TX State, has recruited Texas heavily. My concern is whether he can step into a head coaching position and surround himself with assistants to create a team that can make an impact at the Bowl level immediately.
The second choice for me would be Rocky Long (not great win/loss record, but was coaching New Mexico). Tim Brewster takes 3rd and Dennis Franchione last.
Brewster has a subpar win/loss record (although he was coaching Minnesota which is a tough gig), although he has NFL experience coaching. Franchione is barely a 50/50 win/loss coach even with opportunities to coach legendary programs like A&M and Alabama. Each of those programs had to rebuild for years after he left.
Dennis Franchione??? Are you kidding me??? TSU is is way behind the on hiring especially with National signing day around the corner. The bigger name coaches seem to have already been scooped up so who will lead Texas State to Division I football and has name recognition to recruit blue chips and will the school ante up the money for a quality coach?
It's looking more and more like Fran each second. Brad Fran resigned from Blinn JC an hour ago.

If SWT "texas state" hires or even considers Dennis Franchione, they are more desperate than A&M was. Were he to be hired, not only would I cancel every alumni connection I have, but I would throw away my jersey, helmet and anything I own that even reminded me of SWT. He is a coyote. SWT will NEVER be a D1 powerhouse. Let me say that again...NEVER. Accept it and go on. Life is way too short to give a flying-flip about a stupid sport. Grow up, get off the flippin' PC and spend time with your kids....
Well, Spicer... start your fire. If you believe what the papers are saying, it would sound as if the sweetheart deal from Teis to Fran is about done. I personally don't think they looked too hard beyond Fran. He has been in San Marcos schmoozing the folks there for some time and has a history with Teis. They put the word out to sports writers not long ago with Fran's name headlined as a possible candidate when the article mentioned household names like Applewhite, Leach, and Wright (Fran who?).
I don't like seeing Texas State settle for mediocrity. I guess things are supposed to be different this time.

Who are these 'anonymous' folks? Are you scared to put your name on here? Have you ever played college football? Have you ever played for dennis franchione? Why don't you contact the University of Alabama and ask their input? Specifically, why don't you contact the players he coached at Alabama? He quit Alabama over the phone. What kind of coward does that? He actually looked those boys in the eye and asked them to stay at Alabama b/c he was going to turn that program around after the suspension. Those boys (who only have one chance in their life at college ball) could have transferred anywhere else, but they stayed. Why? B/C he asked them to. Let me say that again slowly so you will understand...HE QUIT OVER THE PHONE. But you say 'he's a winner'. I was fed that line of crap as well. He could care less about SWT, the players or his coaches. I don't care what he says to you face. Grab one of his former coaches that’s a stand up guy and sit down and have a beer with him. Ask them their opinion.
Sad part is, I could bash him all night. Actually, I hope he does get hired. When he wipes his feet on SWT and moves on, you will be standing next to the bed with your hands out saying, “What, why, but, but….he said he loved me”….you will get exactly what you wish for…..

Spicer, I played Jr High ball and could put a lick on someone. I'm about a buck o' eight. You're probably one of those guys that played 'left out' in between time substituting as a blocking dummy when you weren't trying out as punter. I think I could still take you. Is your real name Spicer? Or are you really this guy?
